Destination Washington, D.C.

D.C is probably and hopefully one of the top places on your list. If it is not I hope this may bump it up on your list. As many of you know upon my return from your Europe trip I went home and packed my bags again, and set off the very next morning. Yes it sounds crazy but literally one of the most fun adventures I have had. We only had two days, so we hit the ground running. Literally starting at the Capitol on day one and ending at the Lincoln Memorial on day two. Now it is a lot of walking but ubers are also not that bad in pricing as well. D.C. is not only rich with history but also culture and we soaked up every second.

Washington DC 5So sadly because like I said we only had two days, we didn’t tour a lot of inside of places. But we did go inside a few Smithsonian’s, the National Archives, Ford Theatre, and the house where President Lincoln was declared official dead. Great story about that when we get to that part of the adventure. As you can clearly tell we began at the Capitol, yes the lines are clearly long but all the ones we ventured in moved fairly quickly. After exploring the Capitol we walked down past the library of Congress. Then went into the Air and Space Museum, it was amazing. We learned so much, and it was so interactive for your younger ones. I would highly recommend it.

Washington DC 6

The next stop was the big one that everyone thinks when D.C. is even brought up in a sentence. The White House, its cool to look at and we wanted so badly to go inside sadly we didn’t get to get the tickets in time. If you go in summer time they had a nice grassy area that provides great shade, and of course people watching is guaranteed. Now if you want people to think you went in, I do have a secret for you. Across the street there is a souvenir store if you spend like I can’t remember like 15 bucks they will send you around the corner. Where they have rebuilt the Oval Office and the press podium and the pictures don’t look that fake. I mean obviously you are not in there but hey it’s fun to take the cheesy photos.

The National Archives are also a must see. There are a lot of people but they actually make it easy for you to view all the documents in a timely manner without having to fight and trip over people. They line you up in rows of three then they let you go for about ten, fifteen minutes then they send in the next group. Now you need to watch for the engraved titles vs. the regulars (regulars are fake) engraved in the wall its the real documents. As our day winded down we ended our days events, with the Washington Monument. It was incredible to see up close. Most definitely worth a visit.

Day two: Woke up early to go tour the Ford Theatre. Tickets like most everything in D.C. are free but they will always take donations to help preserve the history. It is a great tour and they also talk to you as if you were there the night of horrible event that took place. They take you through there entire day the planning on John Wilkes Boothe part and unsuspecting on everyone else’s. It so scary to think to about how easily it did happen. Just awful to be truthful with you. You can’t physically go in the booth, but they do have a replica down stairs.

Washington DC 2

Next we went across the street to the house where it all quickly became apparent President Lincoln was indeed assassinated. Now you go through a time frame of the events then this is where the story gets interesting. We are the only people in this part of the house at the moment beside the security officer who was actually wasn’t paying anymore attention to us then we were to him. The room was cold as ice and the lights started flickering. Then as you look around you see a sign room where Lincoln was pronounced dead. It was creepy. We quickly continued the tour, and moved on to our next stop.

The Natural History Museum Smithsonian, it was so cool. Tons of animals and really cool exhibits I’d go again tomorrow. They do constant research to keep the people up to date with the latest information. In fact they had a few parts of the under the sea exhibit closed to get better information. I mean I think that stuff is cool. They also have one of the larger exhibits is all these animals. It is crazy to see them. It is amazing it’s like a huge zoo of knowledge.

Washington DC 4

Of course we had to get a picture with the Meg. Lol

Washington D.C 1

After that began our final adventure the National Monument Mall. It’s a bit of a hike but it is amazing. I can’t describe to you how cool it is. So definitely clear a good part of your day to see all of them. It is so hard to get a picture with Lincoln though. We had to fight for a spot and let me tell you there are tons of people that sit there on the stairs, in the middle of course. So watch out. But let me tell you the view across the pond of the Washington Monument reflecting on the water just gorgeous.

Washington DC 3

Well thanks for traveling to this part of the map with me. When you get to Washington D.C. vote for us.

Destination Sidmouth, England!

Sidmouth is literally the definition of a off the beaten path town, but it is one of the cutest towns. I have ever seen, mom and pop shops and if your a dog lover this place is for you. Its like full of sweet kind people and dogs I mean come on now you can’t go wrong with that. Yes it is a small coastal town but man it packs a punch of adventure. Its about three hours by train, and roughly forty five minutes by taxi from the train station. We travelled in from Paddington Train Station yes the train station with the cute little Paddington Bear, for those who are Paddington fans. After boarding the train, we traveled to Exiter St. Davids train station. Let me tell you its a much calmer train station then Paddington was. Paddington Station was a tad crazy, can’t say its like that every day but it was some issue with the train so of course we caught the crazy.

Sidmouth 2

Upon arrival from the we took this wonderful taxi service called Apple Taxi Service. I have been in my fair share of taxis and these people are so wonderful. HIGHLY recommend them, then we arrived at one the finest hotels I have stayed out. It’s called the Dukes Hotel and no its not the five star Maui Four Seasons, or Sandals resorts no its even better. These people will go to any length for you. They served as a hot breakfast cooked to order I might add. You have a menu not just a bar of choices they set out, and they give you a whole rack of toast as a appetizer. They also serve a lovely lunch and dinner selection. It is fabulous, the food is so good, and they are again so kind. We even had a tour back in London he gave me his personal phone to call and confirm. How may strangers do you know do that? The rooms are also bigger then your average hotel rooms. I’m not joking if you go already planning to go or this blog inspires you please stay here.

Sidmouth 3

So as I said earlier, its a lovely coastal town and yes the beach from this angle is rocky or as they said pebbles. Ha I know exactly what you are thinking but a lot people take a few “pebbles” and color them or leave inspiring messages and where they are from. It’s actually really cool. I love the idea, and I think its trending other places. But never did I think I would see it over seas. But isn’t it beautiful to stare out into. Further on down, it does get more beachy. But that water is like ice. But hey if you like stuff like that go for it, I can’t be doing all that.

Its so interesting to me to compare other places on beaches perspective, the sand texture and colors but again that water is like ice. But isn’t my munchkin just adorable. About 100 yards from where we are standing there is a walk way that leads around the corner to a bar craved up in the rock, and you have to climb up it’s called Jacobs Ladder. Pretty neat to check out, plus they also have ice cream up there. Come on now you can’t go wrong with that.

Now for the real reason we were in Sidmouth, this incredible woman right here. This is my best friends grandma, she’s one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. She lives right here close to where this photo was taken. She walks around the town everyday, like when I get 92 I hope to be like that. She’s awesome. She took us all over Sidmouth, from eating at a local pub and wondering the town. We even got to play at a local play ground they had a zip line when I was a kid where was that at the park? Like come on now.

The town was simple but adorable, everything is locally owned. They have a homemade fudge store, toy stores, cute little boutiques. You name it you can probably find it. It’s awesome, words just don’t describe it. They also have this bus that carries all over including a donkey sanctuary. Sadly we didn’t get to go we didn’t have enough time but hey donkeys are so cute next time for sure. I love them.

Sidmouth 1

Well thanks for traveling to this part of the map with me. Make sure you color a pebble in Sidmouth and write where you are from.

Destination Katakolon, Greece!

Our final stop in Greece, it is a adorable island but be for warned the taxis will rip you off. For a ten minute drive for us the cab driver wanted 100 euros just to go no telling what they wanted to get back. The town is adorable and its a bit of walk but well worth and then you can catch this train 6 euro a person. It goes to a gorgeous beach, vineyard and several other neat stops. So we shopped around and then caught the train out to the beach.

Katakolon 1

Train selfies you know, lol so this is the train great views continuous breeze and runs the same route all day. Well worth your euros, especially if you like adventures. We did the second stop which was the beach but the vineyard did look heavenly and the people that rode with us said it was great.

Katakolon 2

Yes they have huge rocks mostly through out the ocean and yes it was chilly but let me tell you, if you can get a ways out where the rocks are fewer and far less in between its like swimming in a aquarium. TONS of fish, crabs all sorts are hidden in these rocks which hey it you are in between the rocks with less likely predators will bother you. Ha that one though at least. But its a dark blue clear, so you will be able to see the rocks.

The island may be small but it sure does pack a punch of a adventure. Lots of little cafe’s and wifi if you get a drink. Beautiful clothing stores, and awesome nick knacks on every corner. If you arrive by cruise ship its about a half a mile walk, but you can rent scooters, forewheelers, even cars. But truthfully that train is really the best route. Cheap, stops at good places, and really friendly people.

Katakolon 3

Thanks for traveling to this part of the map with me. Watch along the water you will while walking around the sea creatures are everywhere in Katakolon!

Destination Athens, Greece!

Wake up hit the ground running you are in Athens and if you are like us, you wanna climb the Acropolis! Let me tell you it gets crowed quick. But we will get to all that later I’m going to take you on a adventure to the top and I’m not only talking about the Acropolis I’m talking the highest point in Athens. So grab your tennis shoes and lets go!

Athens 5

Early morning means early, early lol so this was taken off the balcony of our room. We had to be fully dressed and ready by 7 a.m. and we set of on our journey. Athens is a popular place and there are tons of people and traffic, so much a women actually got sick and I guess that tour guide didn’t realize everyone including the women could hear her talking about it so needless to say it started out as a awkward tour. But hey that’s what makes any good story telling adventure starts with right?

Athens 4

So we actually got ahead of the tour so we could stop and take pictures such as this, our first stop on the hike up was Herodes Theatre! Amazing isn’t it? All that history just sitting there with stories and all things they have seen we wish we could have. Just amazing also as you can tell we are fairly high up. This isn’t even a portion. But air on the side of caution you will be basically moving straight up hill. Plus they still have the original marble and it is slick I almost fell twice of course I’m super clumsy.

Athens 3

Here it is, this treacherous up hill climb every second worth it. They actually are redoing it which to me isn’t fair because this is the real history. This is what is left. But again as stated in others my opinion not others, but truly amazing isn’t it. All this history left here sorry I am a histroynerd. But I won’t bore you with all that. So once you reach this point you walk the path they once walked, sadly you can’t go in. But they do have serval viewing points to see it from different angles. My niece and I actually walked around to the front and took a seat to just chill for a minute and the stone was actually fairly cool.

Athens 2

Here is our we did it poses! We did though we came, we climbed, we conquered. It is truly a magnificent feeling. So on our way down we then started passing thousands trying to climb up, pushing and shoving and acting crazy. So definitely getting up early and avoiding the crowds is well worth it. Some people actually came on there own from scooters or taxis, but I would highly suggest a tour. You can do whatever you want though, but whatever you do see this.

Next we went down town for a few hours, you want to talk about chaos that is the legit definition of chaos. But for all you shoppers it is heaven each street has stores all you can think of, like one street nothing but shoes, or another street nothing but belts and wallets and well you follow me. Never under estimate the amount of shopping you can achieve in Athens. Also make sure you know somewhat the way back because we got lost twice. Ha but its ok we figured it out. But if you are like me I’m fine getting lost but when you are on a timed tour its not so great.

Athens 1

Well thanks for traveling to this part of the map with me. Climber, shopper, explorer get to Athens.

Destination Mykonos, Greece!

Mykonos is like a dream, between the glassy blue water and all the yachts around the island to the views of the little white houses on the cliffs. Also quick and easy to get around once you get off your boat or fly in however you get there, take this boat called the water taxi. It takes you around the island and its like two to four euros depending on how far you want to go. Whether you are beach goer, or shopper, or just a explorer this island packs a punch ready for any adventurer you are.

Mykonos 4

So lets start with all the cool ally ways, that all lead over the island each one with its special twang. Best part!! Wind is constantly blowing through these ally ways creating a wonderful breeze while you wonder. But seriously look at the way to the water, oh my goodness! We did swim off a local beach which was wonderful, but again the pebbles hurt my feet. I’ll show you a picture as to what they look like.

Mykonos 1

While walking the shore line you see everything you imagined Greece to be. Clear waters, white houses on the cliff, and tons and tons of great smells feeling the air. Plus if you are a yacht person you will be in heaven. Seriously you just need to go sooner rather then later.

Mykonos 3

Don’t you just want to dive in? Can’t you just feel the cool refreshing water already?

Mykonos 5

As our afternoon began winding down, we decided to spend the rest of our afternoon swimming. As you can see these are the pebbles i was talking about. They are so beautiful to look at but man alive they hurt to step on. The water is so cool and refreshing but watch out for crabs they love hiding in the rocks. They will pinch haha not like a bad pinch or anything.

Mykonos 2

From my family to yours thanks for traveling to this part of the map with us. So get on your yacht do like we did and act like we own the place and get to Mykonos!

Destination Santorini, Greece!

As many of you have been reading, I recently just came back from my third over seas trip. Many more to come! So as you probably also know we are a cruising family so we decided to tour Greece by boat, so we boarded the Royal Caribbean International (RCI) Jewel of the Seas. It was a blast! Stop number one was Santorini Greece, and if you don’t know my mom is currently fighting cancer. So she couldn’t do everything that she wanted to on this trip it hurt to watch but on the flip side we still had the best time making the memories we got to! Our day began with a afternoon arrival to Santorini now if you have a fear of heights proceed with caution. But if you are anything like my best friend, she faced her fears and loved every second of it.

Santorini 6

So you have a few ways of getting up the island one- bus, car, or ATV up a winding road (picture will come soon) two- cable car or three- walk up hill. Same options go for coming back down. We took a excursion to a black sand beach which as you can probably guess is made out of volcanic ash. Which yes it does get hot, but its not as bad as i thought it would be. But I would recommend maybe some water shoes, or sturdy sandals it not soft sand and the shore line is rocky.

Santorini 5 View from the bus almost to the top.

Santorini 4Here’s the view from our chair at the beach, there is a lovely local bar with restrooms, wifi and beach chairs if you eat or drink there. Which hey that’s a great deal. Plus the people were super friendly and they also had a cute little souvenir shop located next door.  So well priced and again every one was so nice.

Santorini 2

Now again this isn’t your soft sand beach day, right about here you will sink into all the little pebbles. Now I have tender feet so it took me a few minutes to get around but that’s me. But man isn’t it beautiful! The water is super cool blue clear like not the typical turquoise its more like deep blue jean but clear. Oh gosh it is so pretty, and the water felt cool and refreshing.

Santorini 1

After a fun filled day at the beach we got in line for the cable car, now it is long but it will move quickly. There were tons of adorable shops, and cold water along the way. Plus this beautiful view. Now getting to this spot is mostly up hill, so prepare yourself. The cable car is a beautiful view up or down. You should definitely ride it at least once while on Santorini.

Santorini 3

See what I mean about the sinking? Lol anyway thanks for traveling to this part of the map with me well us. Continue on our journey through Greece. See you from the top of Santorini!

Destination Universal Orlando, Florida!

So as the commercial says the older kid vacation, and yes it is! I’m still a Disney lover but yes Universal is so much fun. We rode almost every ride, and of course as you have probably read from my other blogs, I’m a legit Potter geek so of course most of our day spent in Harry Potter. So tips to the wise get the connecting park tickets so you can ride the Hogwarts express between parks. BEST MONEY YOU WILL SPEND AT THE PARK. It is a lot of walking, not even kidding then there it is ready to take you across and off your feet. Plus it has a few surprises in store.

Universal 5

We had three days of course three parks, so I’ll start with day one Universal Studios. Home of Simpsons, Diagon Ally, Jaws (pier), Mummy and much more. It will a jam packed day of fun. We started out with the Simpsons, air with caution I don’t get motion sickness but on some of the rides I actually came close. We ate a café of Jaw’s Pier which was pretty good. I would suggest if you don’t have lunch plans that’s where I would check because it’s all combos so drink, fries food all one price. Sadly they don’t have the Jaws ride anymore. I was very sad one of my favorite movies.

Universal 6

Here it is Diagon Ally! So Potter geeks tune in! They have everything from Ollivanders to Gringotts. Borgan and Burkes down Knockturn Ally. Make sure you know your spells, your wands will make you or break you through out the park. Also keep a close eye on the dragon, you never know if he will strike.

Universal 3.jpg

Volcano Bay day two. Pack your swim suit you will be wet within seconds. They have tons of rides, and the best part virtual line waiting. Check in with your wrist band and go lay out, swim, eat whatever. Then it beeps and you go get your spot in line. Sounds cool right. Again we rode almost everything, I’m going to tell you right now stairs upon stairs. We had to take several breaks, I mean its a climb. Sadly the Volcano ride was shut down so no to that but everything else. We took on like champs. I have to say check out the not so lazy river its so much fun. But where your life jacket you will get swept away quick.

Or you can work on your tan in the sandy beach area. Whatever you do, It will be a great day of fun in the sun. Make sure you rent a locker they may look small but you can get a lot in. But the cool news is make friends with your neighbors and watch out for each others seats that way you feel a little bit safer with what you don’t put in your locker. I mean come on now you will want photos. They take them but I prefer my own. Lol

Universal 2.jpg

So last day Isle of Adventure, despite our faces we were sad. YES before you even question the castle was AWESOME! Inside and out upon entering the section of the park you can choose Hogsmeade or Hogwarts. It legit feels like you are in the movie. It is so cool, but ok moving on the other parts of the park.

If you read Destination Hawaii, you also know I’m a Jurassic nerd. But Marvel land was also extremely cool. Plus Transformers and parades and so much just packed in. It is so much fun. Please just go, just go!! It is amazing! You are missing out, and oh yea did I mention the Minions. I stinking love Minions! There is a adventure waiting around every corner for any age.

Universal 4

Well thanks for traveling to this part of the map with me. Whatever your movie is there is a adventure waiting for you to take in Universal, GO!
